Cities and regions are confronted every day with the task of making sustainable development a reality that works for all citizens. As the climate crisis and rising social inequalities pose serious challenges to Europe’s future, local and regional authorities, on which no less than 65% of the targets depend, have become new drivers of change. Cities like Mannheim have already initiated inclusive processes to localise their sustainable development goals in partnership with citizens, business and civil society. The event gave the opportunity to discover, among other European examples, the “Model Mannheim 2030”.
As part of the Urban Thinker Campus, the PES Group organised its second #ProgressiveLocalLab. The aim of this local event was to bring together different groups of people in order to exchange best practices from different progressive European cities to discuss how best to implement the SDGs at local level and to build a progressive network working to build a more sustainable Europe from the ground up.
Städte und Regionen sehen sich tagtäglich mit der Aufgabe konfrontiert, eine nachhaltige Entwicklung für alle Bürger zu verwirklichen. Da die Klimakrise und die zunehmenden sozialen Ungleichheiten die Zukunft Europas ernsthaft in Frage stellen, sind die lokalen und regionalen Gebietskörperschaften, von denen nicht weniger als 65 % der Zielvorgaben abhängen, zu neuen Antriebskräften des Wandels geworden. Städte wie Mannheim haben bereits inklusive Prozesse eingeleitet, um ihre Ziele für nachhaltige Entwicklung in Partnerschaft mit Bürgern, Unternehmen und der Zivilgesellschaft zu lokalisieren. Diese Veranstaltung bat die Gelegenheit, gemeinsam mit anderen mehr über die Erfahrungen von „Leitbild Mannheim 2030“ zu erfahren.
Im Rahmen des „Urban Thinker Campus“ hat die SPE-Fraktion ein #ProgressiveLocalLab veranstaltet. Ziel des „Progressive Local Lab“ war es, verschiedene Gruppen von Menschen zusammenzubringen, um bewährte Verfahren aus verschiedenen fortschrittlichen europäischen Städten und Regionen auszutauschen, zu erörtern, wie die Nachhaltigkeitsziele am besten auf lokaler Ebene umgesetzt werden können und wie ein fortschrittliches Netzwerk lokaler und regionaler Entscheidungsträger, insbesondere junger Politiker, aufgebaut werden kann, um für ein nachhaltigeres Europa vor Ort zusammenarbeiten.
